Three Weeks for Dreamwidth is a celebration of the platform's anniversary, running April 25-May 15. During this time, people post content only visible on Dreamwidth (although it can be reposted elsewhere after the event ends). There's usually a flurry of activity as bloggers share anchor posts, new fiction, icons, banners, questionnaires, friending fests, memes, and other goodies. Community hosts often hold special activities in their communities too. Watch your reading page for more festivities.

Are you posting about your experiences coming into Dreamwidth, or anything useful to newcomers on the platform? You can crosspost those entries here. Are you doing anything for Three Weeks in your blog or other community? Post a comment about that to attract more readers. Follow the Threeweeks feed. See my 2024 Questionnaire and a list of other thematic questionnaires. See the Introduction / Friending Meme for this community's questionnaire about new bloggers, and the Introduction tag.

Watch for the upcoming event Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, running April 25-May 15. Folks post content only visible on Dreamwidth, and there are usually memes and other activities too. Mark your calendars!

This year I'm planning to focus on goal-setting methods.

Do you get that end-of-summer, back-to-school feeling as an adult? Looking forward to a fresh start, perhaps with some more DW friends? [personal profile] silviarambles is hosting a friending meme!

Back to School Friendzy - 2024

Please remember that friending frenzies work only if you spread the word, so, even if you're not looking for more friends, do pimp the meme in your own journal please!

Thanks!

The [community profile] sunshine_challenge customarily runs in July.  Watch for that to open up at the beginning of the month.

This month is the [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge, where folks are encouraged to archive their old meta so it doesn't get lost and/or post new meta. In honor of that, today's [community profile] followfriday theme is Meta. So this month, save your meta, make some new meta, and crosspost to meta communities to keep them active. \o/

Archiving your work is especially important for Dreamwidth users who have come here during an exodus from some other venue's upheaval.  You never know if those venues will continue to exist.  So if you have written great stuff on Reddit, or other platforms, then archive it so you'll still have it should they collapse.  Archive.fo, Squidge, and the Wayback Machine are all popular choices but you can also just repost to Dreamwidth and boost your activity here.  Check for communities where you could crosspost things from your personal blog, too, it helps keep them active.

This is a challenge to make fifty posts about fandom things. They can be whatever kind of posts you’d like - movie reviews, recs, a story about meeting a fellow fan, cosplaying … anything!
The challenge runs for a year (well, 11 months), so a pace of one post per week plus a couple would do it.

Today is not actually Monday, but [personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Magpie Monday from July 13-19 with a theme of "self-care." Leave prompts, get ficlets!

The theme is self-care. Simple, from the outside, but often difficult to think of when it’s most needed. I’m promising scenes of reassurance, comfort, and fluff at least 700 words long (in part because I hope for very, very many prompts). Posted stories will range from 1000-1400 words, and sponsors can ask for a rough word count using two cents per word as a guide. My word counts are usually generous to readers and sponsors.

Sometimes NaNoWriMo is an inconvenient time for fandom and original creators alike.

[community profile] communal_creators is going to be running a 30-day event to encourage that kind of creativity, in multiple formats this fall. Dates chosen are for after public school should be back in swing for many countries, but before the rash of late fall-early winter holidays worldwide.

We will have sign-ups that allow for "time spent creating" or "actual creations made". Or you can be adventurous and sign up for both.

Please come have a look, and if the idea sparks something, join us to get further announcements, including a plan to have a crowd-sourced resource posting before the event itself.

Are you hoping to make new friends here on Dreamwidth? Consider doing the [community profile] sunshine_challenge this year. While not as big as the [community profile] snowflake_challenge in January, it is a lively event that draws more traffic to participating blogs. Lots of folks do this as a fanwork creating event, but you could just as easily do original work, make it a photo scavenger hunt for flowers, or whatever else inspires you.

The Fireworks Bingo Fest is now open over on [community profile] allbingo if anyone is into explosive entertainment and/or creative bingo.  This particular fest also lends itself well to standard bingo, where you mark off what you see, if you plan on catching a fireworks show.  We also have a Meet and Greet where you can squee about your love of fireworks and make new friends.

Some communities and individual blogs have annual activities or events that take place at a particular time. Summer ones are running now. The holiday activities typically open in late summer or early fall, so completed works will be available in December or thereabouts; watch for those coming up soon. Many people like to pick several events to space out through the year.

Fannish activities often advertise in [community profile] fandomcalendar and/or [community profile] fandom_on_dw so watch those if this field interests you. Of these, [community profile] fandomcalendar offers a convenient Frequency: Annual tag, although not all relevant posts use that tag. [community profile] fandom_on_dw does not offer frequency tags, but is a popular place to post all types of fannish events.

Annual activities that have their own community (e.g. awards, fests) may appear in [site community profile] dw_community_promo. This is an official community and features comms about all topics, not limited to fandom. It's a good place to find new communities in general, too.

Do you run an annual event that you would like to feature on Dreamwidth? See this helpful guide to starting a DW community.

Other topics can be harder to hunt down because moderators often do not mark their community with interests such as "annual," "yearly," or other helpful descriptors of timing. You can still find them by watching your reading page for things that your friends are doing. Many events have banners that participants can use to promote them, and even with those that don't, you may see friends talking about what things they have signed up to do.

If you like "bleg" posts (short for "blog begging" where you ask questions of your audience) then this is a great topic for that. You can ask your friends what annual events they are doing and/or which ones they recommend for you.
